Interim · 2 October 2026 · reviews are open to invited testers
Tenant reviews are open to a small group of testers and will open to everyone later. These are the rules every review is read against. See also how we moderate.
What a good review does
- Describes your own experience of living in the building: what happened, and when.
- Talks about the building and how it is run: repairs, heat, pests, noise, how management responds.
- Is specific. “No heat for nine days in January 2025” helps the next tenant more than “terrible.”
- Is fair. Say what was good, too.
What we remove
- Personal information: names of neighbours or staff, phone numbers, email addresses, unit numbers of other people, anything that identifies a private person.
- Threats, harassment, or encouragement of harm.
- Hate and discrimination: slurs, or content about anyone’s race, religion, national origin, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, family status, age, immigration status, or source of income.
- Things you did not experience yourself: rumours and second-hand stories.
- Duplicates: one review per person per tenancy.
- The wrong building. We will try to move it to the right one first.
We do not remove a review because it is negative, because a landlord asks us to, or because we could not confirm the writer lived there. An unconfirmed review is published and labelled as unconfirmed.
How moderation works
Every review is checked before it appears, first automatically and then by a person when something is flagged. If we remove or edit a review, we tell the writer why, and they can ask us to look again.
Owners and managing agents
If you believe a review breaks these rules, write to disputes@bytenants.com with the building and what you believe is wrong. We apply these rules, and only these rules. We never reveal who wrote a review, and nobody can pay to have one removed.
